Reflection on Prensky's Ideas

Upon reading "Engage me or Enrage me" by Mark Prensky, it became abundantly clear that we as learning mangagers have a responsibility to ensure that we are engaging our students fully in the classroom to guarantee the best learning outcomes possible. Learners in the 21st century have more knowledge and skills then they are given credit for by teachers and education systems, yet we continues to send them back to the 'basics' in the classroom causing them to become bored and inattentive.

We need to continue building on what they already know in a challenging, interesting, relating and meaningul way. Learners in the 21st century use technology on a daily basis outside the classroom, so why can't we find ways to incorporate the outside in? Bring their everyday lives into the schooling environment? Make learning more relevant in the classroom? Through the use of ICT we will be able to ensure that students are engaged in learning and further, in a wide view, teaching our students what thye need to know to survive in a technology driven society.

Prensky has it right when he brought forward the notion of stepping up and ensuring many levels of engagement in the schooling environment. So answer this, as a learning manager are you going to 'engage or enrage' your students?
